Professional Learning in Literacy Education 2025-26

Maple Lane teachers have committed themselves to professional learning in literacy instruction and have taken several actions over the past few months. Through reading assessments and anecdotal reports from teachers, it has been determined that reading comprehension (especially connections to text and inferences) is a key area to focus on. On November 5, teachers met in groups with Briana Adams (Teacher Consultant for Literacy) to build their repertoire of reading strategies. On two Pro-D Days (December 1 and January 26), teachers explored the school district’s Pillars of Literacy resource and shared their reading comprehension strategies with each other. On April 7, teachers will meet again with Briana Adams to continue to expand their reading comprehension strategies. Our goal is to learn comprehension strategies to directly impact the needs we have identified in our students. We will be able to monitor progress through reading assessments administered in the Spring and in the Fall.
