Collaboration and Professional Learning in Term Three
| An action that we have taken to support our school’s learning focus is: | Teachers at Maple Lane had multiple collaboration and professional learning opportunities in the third term, with a focus on literacy. On April 7, teachers met with Briana Adams (Teacher Consultant for Literacy) in grade groupings to learn strategies to address student learning needs. The groups focused specifically on reading comprehension, including inferencing, making connections and questioning. On May 5 and 6, teachers had additional collaboration time to explore teaching practices in the Pillars of Literacy and to plan for literacy instruction. |
| How this action supports our school’s learning focus: | The intent of these collaboration and professional learning opportunities is for teachers to develop their teaching capacity and to plan for targeting specific learning needs of our students, as outlined in our School Focus. The impact of these actions will become evident over time through the Richmond Formative Reading Assessment and the student ELA proficiency levels on Written Learning Updates. As a school, we will monitor student comprehension skills closely, especially in areas of most need (e.g. inferencing, making connections and questioning). |
