District Update Regarding Recent Events in Tumbler Ridge
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our thoughts are with all those affected by the events that took place in Tumbler Ridge yesterday.
While this incident did not occur within our district, we recognize that news of serious events in our province may be felt in different ways across our school communities. The Richmond School District remains committed to ensuring that all students feel welcomed, are treated respectfully, and have a strong sense of belonging and safety within our schools.
We understand that children and youth may respond differently to news events. School administrators, counsellors and staff are aware of the incident and are prepared to support students as needed. Schools will respond in age-appropriate ways and will continue to provide stable learning environments.
If your child requires additional support, please reach out to your child’s teacher, counsellor or principal. Staff are available to work with families to determine appropriate supports within the school setting.
We are also sharing a resource for families that provides practical strategies to support children through stressful circumstances. The document is available here: https://sd38.bc.ca/sites/default/files/2023-10/strategies_for_parents.pdf
Sincerely,
Christopher Usih
