Our Beautiful Mural

Last week we celebrated the completion of our mural. The mural was made possible by a grant that we received from the City of Richmond.

The mural was inspired by the plants and animals that live on the land around Maple Lane and the plants and animals that lived here before Maple Lane.  The artist, Jean Bradbury first met our students when she hosted in-person community engagement workshops with all of the students of Maple Lane to teach them about our native forests. As the mural progressed, Jean met with all of our classes again to talk about local plants and animals.  Every student chose a plant or animal to add to the border of the mural. The mural celebrates ecology, belonging and community.

Our mural celebration included student reflections on why the mural is important to them and a poem written by Ms. Allesia.  The Mayor and Councilors officially cut the ribbon and opened the mural.

Thank you to the City of Richmond, School District 38, Jean Bradbury, Catherine Jule (District Administrator for Fine Arts and Early Learning) and Mrs. Lin (classroom teacher) for giving us this opportunity and making our mural possible.
